success and significance

Over the last two weeks I’ve had several conversations with guys who are assessing where they find themselves in life.  While “helping” them, I’ve found it to be helpful myself.  How often is that the case!

In my own life, I have a growing uneasiness about spinning my wheels.  Let me rephrase that: I have no desire to spin my wheels.  Life is too short and too uncertain to just go through the motions.

For me, it’s a matter of stewardship.  Am I being a good steward of the time and talents God has given me?  Sorry to tell you this, but my time (and your time) is only getting shorter.  The amount of time I have to make a dent in eternity is less with each moment.

When we arrive in heaven, God will not ask us how we “killed time”.  He will ask you if you did the best you could with what he gave you.  I want to be able to say that I put it out there – that I left nothing on the table.

Honestly, I don’t feel that way right now.  Don’t confuse busyness with effectiveness.

Are you chasing success or significance?  Both?  Neither?
