Leading Like Jesus (1 Peter 5:1-4)

By Church
Leading Like Jesus Every group needs guidance — whether it’s a family, a team, or a church. But not all leadership looks the same. Some leaders lead with pride and distance; others lead with humility and presence. In 1 Peter 5, we get a picture of leadership that reflects the heart of Jesus. And it starts in a surprising place. Lead From Among, Not From Above Peter begins by writing: “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder ..." (1 Peter 5:1). Notice what he doesn’t say. He doesn’t pull rank as an apostle. He doesn’t flex his authority. Instead, he calls himself a fellow elder. That’s humility. That’s shared responsibility. And it reminds us that true spiritual leadership starts with presence and proximity. The best shepherds “smell like sheep” because they’re involved, not isolated. Leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about being close enough to guide, protect,…

Finding God in Life’s Hardest Moments (1 Peter 4:12-19)

By Church
Finding God in Life’s Hardest Moments Have you ever walked through a trial and thought, “Why is this happening to me?” If so, you’re not alone. Peter wrote his first letter to believers who were facing intense persecution. And instead of telling them to run from trials, he told them something surprising: See your trials not as obstacles, but as opportunities. Expect the Fire Peter begins with this encouragement: “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you" (1 Peter 4:12). In other words: don’t be caught off guard when life gets hard. The problem is our perspective. Too often we think, “This shouldn’t be happening to me. I’m a good person!” But unrealistic expectations set us up for disappointment. Athletes expect training to be tough. They don’t quit when the soreness sets…

Mindset Before Method

By Church, General
Mindset Before Method We often jump into our to-do list before checking in with our mindset. But how I show up matters just as much as what I get done. That’s why I ask myself one question each morning: “How do I want to show up today?” If you’re building something that matters, give equal attention to your mindset and your method. One fuels the other. Reflection is a Leadership Habit

By Church, General
Reflection Is a Leadership Habit Most leaders are great at starting things. But few are skilled at reviewing them. That’s where reflection comes in. A daily debrief isn't about guilt; it’s about growth. Whether you’re leading a church, running a business, or managing your own life ... pausing to reflect is where wisdom is formed. And in a world that glorifies hustle, reflection is a quiet act of resistance. Using What God Gave You (1 Peter 4:10-11)

By Church
Have you ever been given a tool or gadget that you never actually used? Maybe it sat in a drawer. Maybe it stayed in the box. Maybe you weren’t even sure what it was for. That’s how many of us treat the gifts God has given us. We receive them, but we leave them on the shelf. But Peter makes this clear: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others…” (1 Peter 4:10) Yes, You Have a Gift That phrase “each of you” is key. It means no believer is left out. Spiritual gifts aren’t just for pastors, musicians, or public speakers. They’re for everyone who follows Jesus. Paul says the same thing: “To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7) Every believer has a spiritual gift—no exceptions. And every gift is meant to bless others.…
