This is the first part of a three-week study of the practical theology found in Titus. Paul has left Titus on the island of Crete for the purpose of establishing a church there. Paul is concerned that the new church live exemplary lives among their pagan neighbors. When we speak of the gospel, we have to recognize that there is a true gospel and a false gospel. The pagan influences that surrounded Titus and the church posed a real threat to the successful establishment of the church. In our modern world, we are busier than ever. However, I'm not convinced that we are necessarily more productive. In fact, energy favors simplicity over complexity (remember the laser). Instead of adding one more thing to your "to do" list, create a "stop doing" list. Are their things you are doing that someone else can (and should be) doing? Are you trying to do too much and not anything well? When you say "no" to something, it's good to remember that you are also saying "yes" to something you feel is more important.
