Our Wonderful Counselor

By Church
Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. People seem nicer, except in checkout lines. Christmas music with words about Jesus gets played in stores other than Chick-fil-A. And who doesn’t love pictures with Santa? How do you feel about Christmas? Depending on your experiences growing up, Christmas may not give you the warm fuzzies. Perhaps there is an empty chair around the dinner table. Regardless of our personal experiences or feelings, Christmas is a reminder that God offers us the opportunity to be led by a Wonderful Counselor. Isaiah is an interesting character in the Bible. He’s known as one of the Major Prophets and will be quoted in the New Testament over 65 times. As a prophet, Isaiah had worked with godly rulers and ungodly rulers. In that sense, not much has changed. During the time we’re going to study, Isaiah is working with one of…

By Church
You’ve probably heard someone say, “You reap what you sow.” In other words, you harvest what you plant. The law of reaping and sowing is just as real as the law of gravity. If I jump off the stage, I’m confident I will land on floor. While it may be fun for you to watch, it might not turn out so pleasant for me. Some of the most frustrated people I know are those who want to experience change but don’t want to do anything different. It doesn’t work that way. Generous people don’t think like stingy people. They understand the law of the harvest. They understand that whatever you want out of life, give it away: If you want to be loved, love people. If you want to be alone, grumpy, and bitter – give nothing away. What do you want? Really want? Are you willing to give it away? Professor…

What God is After

By Church
When we do what is convenient, we tend to get common results. When we do what is inconvenient, we will get uncommon results. Why do most people simply do what is convenient? Why settle for common results? It's not overly complicated. It’s easier, takes less time, and it’s more … convenient. When it comes to making a lasting difference for God, I have found that my biggest hurdle is my own selfishness. If I’m selfish with my time, I’ll only do things I enjoy doing. If I'm selfish with my talent, I’ll use them for things that bring me credit. If I'm selfish with my treasure, I’ll spend it on myself. Many people aren't generous because they have a wrong understanding of God. God is not after your time, talent, or treasure. God is after your heart.
