planning ahead

By Church
As we look forward to 2010, let me share with you some reminders from Mac Lake about the importance of planning ahead. God is a planner. Psalm 33:11, But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. God shares his plan with us. Amos 3:7, Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets God expects us to plan. While Scripture does not come right out and say, “Thou shalt plan” there are plenty of Scriptures encouraging us to plan wisely.  Proverbs 20:18, Make plans by seeking advice; if you wage war, obtain guidance. Planning is beneficial. Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. The Holy Spirit guides us in planning. When we practice Spirit lead planning it allows God to display His wisdom through our leadership.  1 Chronicles 28:12…

leadership focus, one question

By Church
One simple question can help keep leaders on track: "What do we want to accomplish?"  Before you enter a board meeting, staff meeting, or have coffee with a potential leader ... ask that question.  You'll be amazed at how much focus that one question can bring to your upcoming opportunity.

android os

By Family
I bought my wife for Christmas a Samsung Moment (see below) that runs Google's Android OS.  Here's my first take: I really like it. As you may know, I'm a big fan of all things Google.  Apart from the "big brother" concerns of collecting all that data, I think Google has done a fantastic job of bringing innovation and usability to the web.  For years, Google.com has been my standard home page. Well, enough about that.  Back to the phone.  Samsung's implementation of Android seems pretty slick.  It flows well, looks beautiful, and installs apps easily.  One of the great things about the Android OS is it's open source approach.  I'm a believer in open source (PHP, MySQL, etc) -- the idea of opening up code to the programming community to use, tweak, develop, and improve. At first blush, I would be tempted to make my next phone an Android-based…

In Colossians 3:5-11, Paul talks about what it means for the Christ-follower to live under new management.  Prior to coming to faith, we wore the wardrobe of Adam and Eve (not the fig leave, thankfully) -- our closet was filled with rebellion, disobedience, selfishness, and all the other fashions consistent with a life outside of God. As part of the conversion process, we are being transformed into the image of Jesus.  What begins at baptism continues throughout the rest of our life.  At baptism, we are "clothed in Christ" as Galatians 3:27 tell us: "for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."  Our new wardrobe consists of the virtues and values of Jesus. As we grow and mature, our new clothing begins to fit better.  At first, the new clothes might be a bit uncomfortable -- like breaking in a new pair of shoes. …

An excerpt from this weekend's message, "Closed for Remodeling." "Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.  Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.  Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.  Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all" (Colossians 3:5-11). When we come into a relationship with Jesus, we give him the right to go…
