Endorsements. In our culture, its very common for companies to pay celebrities to endorse their product. An athlete may get paid millions of dollars for allowing their name to be associated with a pair of shoes. Endorsements range from weight loss to hair gain.
If former NFL coach John Madden cured his athlete’s foot problem with “fast actin’ Tinactin”, you can, too.
In John 6:27, Jesus tells the crowd that he bore God’s “seal of approval.”
27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” – John 6:27
Don’t dismiss this as just another endorsement. Jesus wasn’t a celebrity that God was using to promote his product line.
In fact, a seal of approval indicates several important truths:
- The person giving the approval is doing so from a place of authority.
- The person receiving the approval is doing so because they’ve met a standard of satisfaction.
This declaration by Jesus is no small statement. He has been certified by God himself as worthy. He gives the reason for receiving God’s seal of approval in verse 38:
38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. – John 6:38
Jesus lived his life in full compliance with the will of God.
Jesus didn’t receive God’s seal of approval because he was popular, but because he was faithful.
What an incredible thought it is to know that when you and I act in compliance with God’s will, we receive his seal of approval as well.
Often celebrities endorse products they’ve never used or really don’t believe in.
That’s the exact opposite of how you earn God’s seal of approval.
May each of us live this day in such a way as to earn God’s seal of approval.
