For many people, the Holy Spirit is the least understood person in the Trinity. Or even worse -- he’s misunderstood. This reminds me of a comedian from the 1970s and 80s who appeared on the Gong Show. He would come out with a paper bag over his head, with holes cut out for his eyes and mouth, and told corny (i.e., dad) jokes. He called himself The Unknown Comic. In some ways, the Holy Spirit is the unknown comic of the Trinity. It's not that he has a corny sense of humor, but few people really understand who he is. You might be thinking, “But Ken, why does this matter? I believe in Jesus and read my Bible.” According to Jesus, it matters because the Holy Spirit equips, enables, and empowers people to follow him. When we don’t understand who the Holy Spirit is and what he does, what happens?…

Throughout this short letter, John’s feelings towards Gaius are obvious – he really loves him. As he closes the letter, he expresses his desire to not have to communicate by pen and ink but hopes to talk face to face. John is expressing a very natural desire, one created within by God: to know and be known, to be connected to others beyond superficial means. Our modern digital culture has allowed to be more connected and disconnected than ever before. The church provides a community in which people can build deep relationships.Watch more videos at the Mountainview YouTube channel. Looking for a Speaking Coach? God is the reason why we worship. We gather together as believers to remember, celebrate, and honor who God is and what he has done. This is the starting point of worship – not styles, forms, preferences, or strategies. The Hebrew writer reminds his readers that as Christians they have been given new access to God through Jesus the mediator. As a result, we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken – an eternal, everlasting kingdom. Knowing this, we are to be thankful and worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.Watch more videos at the Mountainview YouTube channel. Looking for a Speaking Coach? Our savings and investments can go up or down. When people ask me, “Ken, what have you learned from the last 14 months?” here’s what I tell them: Your sense of security will only be as secure as what you worship. To be fair, you might be thinking “I don’t worship anything.” I'm not suggesting God is the only thing that can be worshiped. Worship is anything you declare worthy of your time and devotion. We all know someone who worships being physically fit. If you don’t know someone, here’s hint: they usually don’t look like me! What’s the problem with worshiping your physical body? Your body changes! It begins to wrinkle as you get older … and it makes strange…

I’m not the same person I was a few years ago … or even a few days ago … and neither are you. Science teaches us that … The cells that line your stomach can renew every 2 days. Your skin cells regenerate every 2-3 weeks. Bones regenerate every 10 years. Unfortunately, that donut from 10 years ago might still be in a fat cell. With the exception of the donut, all this renewal and regeneration goes on without much effort on our part. Now, you might be thinking, "Ken, that’s fascinating information. But how does that help me follow Jesus?” Here’s the thing: I’m not same person I was a few years ago … or even a few days ago. Not just biologically, but – more importantly – spiritually. Which brings me to why Christians gather to worship. It’s not to swap ideas on being better parents or grandparents.…
