During today's Willow Creek Leadership Summit, Adam Hamilton talked about the "moment of the maybe." That's the moment of temptation when your mind begins to think "What if I did ..." Or, "maybe it wouldn't be so bad." We never ask ourselves, "How will this end?" because we're not thinking down the road; we're stuck in the moment of the maybe. And the moment of the maybe often seems quite good. We speak and the other person listens. We tell a joke and the other person laughs. They like us. They tell us we're funny. They tell us we're understanding. When you find yourself in having a moment of the maybe, what do you do? RUN AWAY! There is nothing good to be gained from entertaining the "what if" questions. One of the sections on our new site -- Making Love Last -- is a category entitled "Marriage Snippets." It's a collection of short, pithy comments on marriage that I put together. Low cost outreach does not have to equal low quality outreach. In these challenging economic times, many churches are having to either scale back the size of their marketing, rethink it, or discontinue it altogether. When discretionary dollars get tight, marketing dollars often give-way to more immediate, tangible ministry needs. As we're gearing up for our fall outreach series, we've been brainstorming low-to-no cost ways of promoting the series. While not every church may have the staff to pull all of these things off, they may have volunteers who can. Here's how we'll be promoting the series for little or no dollars. Unique URL. We created a special site just for the series: www.makinglovelast.org. We've created a free four-part email newsletter called "Four…

I confess: I once owned a 45 of "Celebrate Good Times" by K.C. and the Sunshine Band. For the younger crowd, a "45" was a small version of vinyl album and had two songs, one on each side. As a church leader, it's important that I set aside time to celebrate. We serve a God who is worthy of our praise -- and who gives us much to celebrate. Teams benefit tremendously when we celebrate together: It reminds us that God is still active, no matter how good or bad the present situation may be. In fact, he is often more active than we realize. It allows us to encourage those who may not get encouraged. Every team has those who serve quietly. Behind-the-scenes doesn't translate to less important. It keeps us focused on the positive when we might be tempted to wallow in the negative. What we celebrate we…
