This is the first part of a three-week study of the practical theology found in Titus. Paul has left Titus on the island of Crete for the purpose of establishing a church there. Paul is concerned that the new church live exemplary lives among their pagan neighbors.
When we speak of the gospel, we have to recognize that there is a true gospel and a false gospel. The pagan influences that surrounded Titus and the church posed a real threat to the successful establishment of the church. The modern church must also be discerning when it comes to a true or false gospel – especially when American values may clash with biblical values.
