Running the Wrong Way

In 1964, the Minnesota Vikings were playing the San Francisco 49’ers when Vikings defensive lineman Jim Marshall recovered a fumble. Unfortunately for Marshall, the cameras captured the entire play.

As you might imagine, defensive linemen aren’t accustomed to handling the football. He scooped it up, tucked it under his arm, and began running … the wrong way!

Only when a 49’er hugged him in the end zone did Marshall recognize what had happened. The only person who didn’t realize Jim Marshall was running the wrong way was Jim Marshall.

In Philippians 3, the Apostle Paul admits that for a big chunk of his life, he had been running wrong way.

Ever felt like that yourself?

The good news of the gospel is that God can set us on a different path.

What is that path? As Paul discovered and then taught, our ultimate pursuit in life is to know Christ and to experience the power of his resurrection.

May you find yourself running the right way.
