While it’s fine climbing Mt. Bierstadt without a guide, it would be more than foolish to try Everest on your own … in fact, it could be fatal. While many people would never climb a literal mountain without a guide, I’ve seen couples navigate the challenges of marriage without a guide. Or students battle addictions without a guide. I’ve even seen people try to be good Christians without guide.
While we have free will to act and to choose, we are not to be self-directed followers of Jesus. God gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth.
